[Background information:
Alphonse is a half blood born to a half english/half german witch and a german muggle (his father was himself born to a wizard and a muggle). His mother's german family is a very old and traditional wizarding family, and many generations back an enemy cast on them a curse that carried down to him; the integrants of his family get easily sick and no amount of common potions can cure them, sometimes not even the rarest and hardest to make will have any effect. So far, every time he or his mother have gotten sick, a family brew have always gotten them better. Alphonse, though, does not like to appear weak to others, so whenever he gets sick he fights off taking the potion as much as he can so he does not have to ask more for his mother (he still has not enough skill to make it), and he always hides from others that he is sick. He has gotten good at hiding it too, from practicing since early childhood.
Both his parents work with astronomy, his father is a theoretical physicist and his mother works with him on the wizarding side of the science. So, ever since he was a child he has always been fascinated with the subject due to his parents sharing their work with him enthusiastically in a language he could understand. He entered Hogwarts already with an advanced knowledge on astronomy from both muggle and wizarding perspectives, and wishes to follow his studies on the subject as his parents did. He also dreams on finding a cure for the curse laid on his family, and sometimes is quite determined to studying more obscure magics because of it. He is average on potions, but studies the subject hard because he knows someday it will likely be very important to him and his search.
He carries with him all the time a small telescope that many might think shows his love for the subject of astronomy. They wouldn't be completely wrong, but in truth the real reason he is never separated from it is because the source of the curse is inside the telescope, and it must be always near a family member, or else they will get more and more ill until they die. If the charm that holds the curse is destroyed, so is his family. His curse not a common knowledge, he works hard to hide it.
He is a gentle boy and likes to help people, he is also very determined. He doesn't get angry easily. He grew up on Germany, so his english is a little bad. His parents still live in germany, so he goes back there in vacations.
